Special Olympics / The United O
Many think about what people with intellectual disabilities can’t do but when you focus on what they can do - they are just as talented, creative and ambitious as anyone.
When we were asked to design the logo for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, we did a lot of research into the spirit of the games. We quickly realized this wasn’t our logo to create.
We invited 9 Special Olympian designers from around the county to Orlando where we held a design workshop and collaborated with the artists using the same process with which we approach a logo project back at the office. In the end, each artist had their own logo. We took a little from each design to create a final logo: the “United O”. With the help of these 9 athlete-artists, we created a design suite and toolkit with all 9 athlete logos and hero logo that has been used across channels.
We even had the company of Oscar-winning director Rayka Zehtabchi to document the experience.
